Charlotte Land Trust Farm Study
Throughout Charlotte’s history farming has been a defining factor, shaping our landscape, local economy and town character. Yet it has constantly evolved and today is undergoing major changes, that have the potential to reshape the essence of Charlotte. With the intent to learn more about the state of agriculture in our town, the Charlotte Land Trust, together with the UVM Center for Rural Studies, has created the Charlotte Agricultural Landscape Study.
Using third-party data, a survey and interviews with farmers, the study provides a quantitative and qualitative picture of where things stand in Charlotte. It gives valuable information on the successes and the challenges facing our farmers. The study also points to future areas of focus for CLT. What is clear, from the information we have gained and from the interest throughout town, is that farming is as valued today by Charlotters as it has been throughout our history.
